Needle Turn Applique - Little Christmas Trees

This was my first try at needle turn applique and I tried to do the star for the little Christmas Trees.

Wow, these little wall hanging consume so much time if you choose to do FMQ on it. While I was up all night on Thursday along with watching the baby who woke up every few hours, this took me about 8 hours to complete these two after the step below, that is, piecing and appliqueing the stars.

But I am really happy with how they turned out. Unfortunately I didn't get to take the picture of the finished wall hangings as I was working on till the last minute. My daughter missed her school bus and I had to drop per off myself. Hmmm.....next time I have to be more careful about the timing and not wait until the last night before the school is off for Christmas.

I used Patsy Thompson's SewCal Gal's 2012 FMQ challenge feathers tutorial to do this free-form feathers. It turned out great. And the trees are Leah Day's leaf motif FMQ.

Now, linking this with Leah Day's UFO Sunday.

    That is totally awesome!!!! The quilting really takes it to another (super high!!!) level!! The phrase "I work better under pressure" may work when one is in school/college but not so much when we are trying to complete such beautiful projects....Not as much fun as it could have been! They will be treasured for years to come for sure!!! Hugs, D

      Thank you, Doreen! That is so true. If I try to speed up the process the results aren't to be as good. I learned my lesson.
      Her teachers really liked them, I made two identical ones. So, that made my day :-).

      I made a promise to myself, never do this again to myself. Working under pressure doesn't really work well with quilting.

    Your star looks awesome :) I went and watched the video and picked up a tip for getting better inner angles, so thank for sharing that. :)

This week's design was my all time favorite. Its an easy design but people who don't FMQ think its so complicated ;). I really love the the texture on the quilt.
