Wake up to KONA Day 7 - StarBurst
Welcome to the Day 7 of Wake up to KONA blog hop. First I wanted to thank two amazing people behind this blog hop, Mdm Samm for organizing this blog hop and Carol@Justletmequilt.com for being our cheer leader.
I am really excited about this blog hop. I have been collecting different shades of purple, blues/aquas/greens etc for last couple of years. Finally decided to go with the different shades of purples/magenta.
I was very ambitious, but only got the wall hanging done. Here is my quilt top:
I have used 4 different background colors starting from top:
My original plan was to make a lap quilt(48x 64inches). I might still continue to make more stars.
I am really excited to announce that I will be offering this as a pattern. I hope to release it sometime in mid February. If you like the pattern, what size quilt would you prefer? Leave a comment below. If you're a no-reply blogger please make sure to leave your email id below. I will choose a winner on Jan 31st.

Such an effective block in the solids! And I love the split background too!
ReplyDeleteHi Malini! You did a fantatic job! When I first saw the purples I cringed, but you combined them wonderfully with different shades of grade and made them jump out. You did an awesome job on those points. The design in the middle most definitely has to be accentuated with an awesome quilting. I look forward to see the end results. Keep on quilting and sewing!
ReplyDeleteI love the purple and grey combo.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love purple! I would be most likely to make a throw size, around 60" or a little bigger.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very cool looking quilt. The stars almost look 3D. I do like the gradation in the backgrounds too. Great job.
ReplyDeleteLove the purples...very pretty. I agree that the stars look very 3D...very fun! I'm into a twin size quilt these days...perfect for the bed and still small enough to drag to the couch LOL
ReplyDeletewow perfect piecing..allllll that purple is really striking too…please let us know when it is done..love to view again
ReplyDeleteI prefer lap quilts - thanks for sharing your lovely starbursts.
ReplyDeleteYour starbusts are so awesome and stunning. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteWow gorgeous pattern and execution!
ReplyDeleteI like Throws the best. Great pattern!
ReplyDeleteThats a neat star pattern. Great job.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top looks superb. Great shades of purple. My favorite quilt size is an extra large throw.
ReplyDeleteYour design is beautiful in those purple Kona's! Thanks for sharing! I'm partial to lap size or twin quilts.
ReplyDeleteI like queen size quilts, myself. Your quilt is fantastic color and I love that pattern.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite size quilt is a lap throw... but we all need bed size quilts too.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quilt 60"x70", lap size. Perfect for curling up on the couch or in a chair with a quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour design is beautiful!
I usually make queen size quilts.
ReplyDeleteI think this quilt would be great as a wall quilt. If it were made larger, I would throw in a twist of something else (block, sashing, etc.) The graduating background really makes this quilt come alive! svonfumetti at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quilt size for pattern is lap size (or for the pattern to contain multiple sizes).
ReplyDeleteLap size is my favorite right now- too intimidated to try larger!
ReplyDeleteLove thisw and looking forward to the pattern release!
As a rule, I generally prefer the lap size, since it seems to be a favorite of anyone I've ever given one to, unless they specifically mention wanting something larger. I love this pattern and look forward to it's release.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pattern for a lap size quilt. Love your color choices.
ReplyDeleteI like small, doll size and wall hanging size if you are talking about favorite to make. Favorite to receive? Lap size! However, I have never, ever turned away a gift of a bed sized quilt in my life!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors you used! I like lap size - not too big and not too small.
ReplyDeleteLove these Kona solids, especially the gray in the background makes the colors jump out at you. How can you not like this on any size bed? I would love to make 12" inch blocks in a variety of colors for a double bed. What a great wall hanging it would also make! Gosh I just can't stop imagining so many possibilities. Thanks for the opportunity to win a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely! I love nautical stars. I think for this type I'd do a wall hanging and use americana colors!
ReplyDeleteI'd like a small wall-hanging size quilt.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I'd love to see that as a bed sized quilt (in my house that means queen sized!) You're colors are lovely and the different greys in the background make them pop! pbstrand@msn.com aka Beth @ Words & Stiches (who is frantically machine quilting for my Friday post!)
ReplyDeleteVery striking. This will be a great pattern in any size. Personally, I like to purchase patterns that have the fabric requirements and layouts for multiple sizes. Looking forward to seeing your quilt finished. I recall you did a demo of one of your quilts at a local quilt shop last fall. Will you be doing that again with your pattern release? Thanks for sharing ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteStunning! Any size for this beauty would be well received! Thank you for the chance:)
ReplyDeleteOh this will be so cool when it is finished. The design has a lot of movement and is pleasing to the eye. Great work, so far. I will be anxious to see your beautiful finish. Purple is so powerful.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors! Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Of course anything in purples gets my attention. I love wall quilts that allow me to finish a project in a shorter amount of time.
ReplyDeleteNot a purple fan but this is just stunning! Can't wait to see it all finished!
ReplyDeleteWhat I forgot to write is that I like doing lap size quilts:)
Love the boldness of it and the colors really pop. My favorite size is a lap quilt but this would be great in a queen size.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty stars! My favorite size would be about a twin. I like long blankets, my husband and I are tall and I like to be covered toes and all, even when relaxing on the couch! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteStars are my favourite and so pretty in the purples! Love it! I like to make lap size quilts as I find they are more manageable on my machine :)
ReplyDeleteThese stars are gorgeous. And against the grey they really pop. I would love this pattern. Thanks for sharing and for inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI almost always make really large quilts. I don't care for square quilts usually so if I can I just add another row to it.
ReplyDeleteWow, those stars are so gorgeous! Awesome pattern, I think it's perfect for solids and can picture it looking great in any colour. I usually make bed size quilts as I find them most versatile (they can end up on the sofa or on a bed).
ReplyDeleteFabulous!
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for lap size!
Love the stars! My vote is lap size. Thanks for sharing. vickise at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteLove the Star Burst! Love the colors you picked. I usually do wall quilts. May try a lap size this year. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty. Great job.

This is beautiful! I like to make large quilts, so any size would be great. Thank you for sharing and for the chance to win your pattern.
ReplyDeleteLap size!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful use of color! The blocks look 3 dimensional. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeletefavorite size to make is baby or lap size- although lately I am loving postcards and mug rugs
ReplyDeleteI usually make lap or full-sized quilts.
ReplyDeleteLove your purple stars! I usually make lap size quilts. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI love those stars...the colors you chose..oh so pretty. I usually make around a double bed size. Sometimes I go a little bigger. But I also love to do wall hangings in lots of applique work. Guess it is what design I have in mind.
ReplyDeleteGreat wall hanging. I like throw quilts about 60 x 70.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your stars using Kona solids are spectacular. I love the pop of color against the charcoal background. Thank you sew much for hopping...
ReplyDeleteThat is so attractive! The grays make a perfect background. I would probably not make more than 4 blocks, because for me I usually make table toppers. Not enough walls around here. =) Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteYour stars look so 3D, I really love the colours you've used!!
ReplyDeleteI think that your quilt is lovely. My favorite size quilt to make is baby or lap size, although I have made larger quilts as well.
ReplyDeletecheers

My favorite size quilt to make is baby or lap size, although I have made one larger quilt (Queen) as well. Happy New Year from Oklahoma, USA. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the color combinations! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour starbursts really look great, and I like the 2 different grays, they show up in the photo very nicely. Keep up the good work, K
ReplyDeleteLove the starbursts and the purple is just right against the grey. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI like how you used the colors in your quilt. My favorite size quilt is either baby or lap sizes. I struggle to get them quilted if they get much larger than that.
ReplyDeleteI would love it in a twin size. Just the right thing to brighten up my small guest room! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the stars.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stars! A lap size quilt would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteA square lap quilt. There is just something about the stars that scream symmetry to me.
ReplyDeleteYour stars are gorgeous, what a great idea.
ReplyDeletea crib size would look good to me

I think about 50" x 70" (large lap size) is perfect for snuggling. This would look great in a rainbow of stars.
ReplyDeletei always seem to end up with a QS quilt, so i guess that would be my favourite. thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful blocks and I love the colors you chose, they look lovely against the different greys.
DeleteBeautiful! I think the 48 X 48 will be perfect. I love the different colors with the black and gray backgrounds. Gorgeous pattern!
ReplyDeleteYour starburst pattern is great. I like the colors you used.
ReplyDeletebaby quilts are my favourite size. They help me check a pattern and dont take too long to finish.

I am kinda new to the Quilty World...tho have sewn "forever" it seems! lol I love Throw size quilts...are such a nice snuggler size! : )
ReplyDeleteLovely use of color. I like all the purple shades but the different grays for the background are GREAT. I always like lap-size but from a table runner to a king-size quilt, it would look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteKing size quilts or queen is what I like to make.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'd have to make a block before I tell you that. LOL I do love how these look. I would probably make a small quilt for one of the grands.
ReplyDeletelove your new block ... love all the kona greys for background. I make mostly 55 inch square quilts and smaller pieces. bigger than that, they're too heavy and hard to work with.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great block design. They look really nice. I usually make lap size quilts. Once I get started on one quilt my brain starts thinking about the next one to make so a lap size lets me get finished before I get tired of it! :)
ReplyDeleteOmg so fantastic, they remind me of the European Christmas stars
ReplyDelete55"x80" is ideal, but it very often becomes just a bit different: 60"x60"
ReplyDeleteI actually like the pepper and charcoal used together. Approx. 40 x 40 would be great as well as a table runner or topper.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Twin size would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove that block, I would probably make a lap quilt with it in blues.
ReplyDeleteLove the block, and I think I would use the sunset colors. The colors are fabulous in your squares, and they look quite complicated. Thank you for sharing these beautiful squares.
ReplyDeleteForgot to say, I like to try things out on twin size, but will be making a king for our queen size bed in the future. Twin size is my first choice.
ReplyDeleteLove the 3-D stars. Queen size is my favorite at the moment.
ReplyDelete24Tangent@gmail.com
Love the use of gray fabric background. I am crazy about gray lately...
ReplyDeleteLap size is my favorite so far!!

Gorgeous blocks--love purple! I prefer lap size to queen size, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your lovely star blocks :-) Great work!
ReplyDeleteWow - it's gorgeous! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteNice! Lap quilt would be my choice.
ReplyDeleteI think queen size
ReplyDeleteI love purples!! Lap size :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite size is a 54" x 72" throw. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
ReplyDeleteLap size or twin!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite size is always a queen size. I love the block and I especially live the gray/purple combination. My daughter has asked me to make her a t-shirt quilt from her college sorority t-shirts. She wants me to use gray with the t-shrits. She is having trouble picking grays. I finally just bought a couple of Kona grays when they were on sale. I think there are so many choices and many are close in value. Also, if the colors are in the range of your choices, it makes it very difficult to make a choice and with so many choices, it makes it very, very difficult to make a choice. So, I just make some choices. Also, I finally realized that I think she wants a double sided quilt. I'd rather she'd just say that she wants two quilts. She just can't make up her mind what she wants. I think I'm just going to make the quilt and she gets what she gets.
ReplyDeleteVery fun project.
ReplyDeleteTwin is good.
ReplyDeletejachelno(at)gmail(dot)com
Lovely block would love a pattern! Quilt size is King or Queen! Thank you
ReplyDeleteI think it is lovely as a square mini quilt! I would totally hang it up! As a quilt - I'd take a twin size (I'm not that ambitious right now LOL).
ReplyDeleteLap size
ReplyDeleteI like throw-size quilts. Yours is just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHI, I'd like to see this star on a Christmas tree skirt 48" square!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

Such a beautiful block! I think it would make a great wall hanging. :)
ReplyDeleteI like lap quilts the best. They go together quickly and are easier to quilt! They are also very usable!
ReplyDeleteI like twin size. I think I would get lost with something bigger. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI like the one you have showing - it would make a great wall hanging or table topper. Thanks for the give away! jacklynnsteven at netzero dot com
ReplyDeleteLove your star blocks!!! Glad you liked my Spiral Squared. :) Thanks for visiting.
ReplyDeleteSeriously - that's beautiful! I LOVE the colors! I tend to like either a small wallhanging or a huge throw - does that make any sense at all? :)
ReplyDeleteI love your pattern! It's so effective in solids!
ReplyDeleteI would love to make a twin size of this quilt for my son!
ReplyDeleteI love these blocks. I would love to try my hand at these one day...soon!
