Quilt Along with Leah Day - Week 23

This week it was quilting bare branches. I just did a tiny square with this pattern. I will practice more next week along with the tree roots FMQ. Here is my quilting so far and a closeup look at bare branches: Bare branches and other FMQ designs

SewCal Gal's July FMQ Challenge by Angela Walters

This month our FMQ expert at SewCal Gal's FMQ challenge is Angela Walters. Angela Walters work is amazing in the modern free motion quilting world. I really love her work and started getting into modern quilting myself. Here is my attempt at modern quilt. I used Moda Marbles for all the different blue colors. And the Moda Bella white for the sashing and borders. Here is my Quilt Top: This is adorable fabric I found at the Fabric Place Basement in Natick, MA during our BMQG meeting. This line is called "Rolling Trains" by Free spirit. I wish I had bought more fabric to use it other baby quilts. Here are my practice for Tiles FMQ by Angela Walters: I was planning to do more of these but just ran out of thread. Thought any way I will link it up to SewCalGal's website and then tomorrow update it again. Tiles FMQ (the one at the bottom) Got some more quilting done over the weekend. Here is another picture: Added more FMQ, Paisley and Pebbles/Circles

Shades Of Blue Modern Quilt

I hope my attempt to Modern Quilt piecing looks modern. I tried my best to give it a modern look using solid or solid like fabrics. Uneven sashing for the blocks and I followed it through the outer border too. The quilt measures approximately 42 x 46 inches. I hope I will get the quilting done my next week and then need to choose my binding fabric. I have a lot of options here for the binding fabric. Here are some pictures: Shades of Blues Modern Quilt Shades of Blues Modern Quilt Block 1 Shades Of Blues Modern Quilt Block2 I'm linking this to Leah's Quilt Along hoping it does look modern. Overall I'm happy with the results. I would love to hear your opinion on my attempt to modern quilting, please leave a comment one way or the other. Cheers, Malini

Quilt Along with Leah Day - week 19,20 & 21

I haven't got a chance to link every week after we started the Modern Quilts at QAL with Leah Day. For the past couple of months I have already been intrigued about Modern Quilts and Quilting on Modern Quilts after I read about Angela Walters. So, I have been in the process of designing my modern quilt. Traditional Disappearing nine-patch Quilt Design This quilt features two different blocks. I choose Moda Bella Marbles blues for this quilt and Moda Bella White as my neutral fabric. My approach was my choosing the color of the fabrics how a quilt can look modern. Probably there are 100s or even more different ways of making a quilt modern. This was just my approach and couldn't look beyond this at this point since I'm obsessed with this quilt block. I have alternated two different blocks. First Block: Some people call it disappearing nine patch and I wanted to call it sliced nine patch. Jenny @Missouri Star Quilt Co has a great tutorial on this.
