FMQ Friday with Leah Day - Quilts for Boston

Image
This week I got to quilt one of quilts I had pieced for Boston Strong. I didn't have any particular plan on how to quilt this for quilting. And I used the HQ Fusion long arm for the first time. For my height(5ft 3") this was a really really big machine. It did take a while to get used to it, I hope my quilting still turned out okay . And I hope this would be still loved by the special person who will receive this quilt. The awesome Liz@ Bits N Pieces sponsored the quilting for this quilt. She has been such a great support for the "Quilts for Boston". This is the 4th quilt quilted @Bits N Pieces and fully sponsered, including the one quilted by their staff. And I didn't exists in the 60s, but that doesn't mean I wasn't exposed 60s fashion and social media. Here are some fun facts: My parents got married in the late 60s I found these pics of famous Bollywood actress to show the fashion back in India. The sexy Saira Banu The classic Sharmila Tagore The beautiful and adorable Sadhana Yes, most of movies were still in black and white in the 60s. These leading ladies were very popular during the 60s in Indian films. Can you see the hair and makeup? An Indian version of the sixties. We also had the twist dance in India in  60s with a touch of Indian dance ;). Check this out: Wow, I didn't think I knew a lot about the 60s, but I actually do. At least through our Indian cinema. W.I.P Wednesday - Improv blocks

Image
I made good progress with my Shattered quilt from Jacquie Gering and Katie Pederson's book: Quilting Modern . I have been in love with this quilt pattern ever since I bought this book last year. My version is very colorful though. This is going to be a shop sample for Liz @ Bits N Pieces quilt shop, in Pelham, NH using Andover fabrics textured solids(linens) and Simply Style Chevrons by V &Co. I using Jacquie & Katie's "Slice and Insert" technique. It also helped to watch Jacquie's Craftsy class " Improvisational Piecing, Modern Design ". She shows us in detail how to match those points after slicing and while inserting new strip. Textured Solid Chartreuse Textured Solid Aqua/light teal Light blue Teal Dark blue Sorry about the poor quality of pictures, I took them using my Samsung Note in a hurry and looks like they didn't focus well. Just one more block to go. These linens are so wonderful to wor...

W.I.P. Thursday - To do list

Image
I always miss the deadline for W.I.P. Wednesday and end up making a post on Thursday. Why not call it W.I.P. Thursday. Recently I have been renting the long arm a lot at Bits N Pieces , and I have been able to reduce my UFO pile. I am so glad because now I get to get work on more new projects. I have couple of commitments and some quilts which I wanted to make. 1. First comes, Puppy Park fabrics, starting a new baby/toddler quilt. Here is the quilt I saw in Pinterest and here . It will be very similar to this quilt. But I am planning to add this puppy to dog house applique and the tree: 2. I have never worked with Batiks and I'm curious about them. When I saw these batiks by Robert Kaufman I had to buy them. Also I am participating in the blog hop "Twist to the 60s". I don't know much about the 60s but did my research to work with these batiks. Twist to the 60s Here is what I will be working with, Come back on Oct 4th for my turn to share the project. ...

Leah Day's FMQ Friday - Varshini's quilt

Image
I finally got V's quilt done this past Wednesday @ Bits N Pieces . My inspiration for this quilt was Angela Walter's Free Motion Quilting Feathers . This entire class is all about feathers. I love feathers so much that this class was totally worth it. Here are some pictures of the quilt. A lot of negative space for the fun quilting. This quilt was a joint venture between me and my daughter. It was her design and she did all the appliques. She had so much fun peeling off the paper from back of the appliques and sticking them to the quilt. I did all the piecing and ironing for her :-). Varshini's Quilt - Feathers FMQ Feathers FMQ and more... Closeup of the border and swirls feathers Another closeup of the feathers - this is pretty large scale feather about 2inches I guess K saying cheese! When big sis is at school we take over her quilt as well as bunny ;) Back of the quilt - Paisley Minky fabric. Do you see the little feet? This was really fu...
