About Me


Well I have a really long first name, HemaMalini. So, all my life I never went by my full name. Usually my friends and colleagues have known me as Hema. But when I started blogging in 2012 I went by Malini to bring back my creative side. Feel free to address me as Hema or Malini :-).

I'm a Software Architect/Engineer by profession with a creative side. I have been sewing all my life, I can vividly remember making dolls clothes with my big sister when I was just 6 or 7years old.

I started quilting in Summer of 2011 to make a baby car seat cover.  The timing was perfect, with the new baby boy on his way I had to make all sorts of baby stuff. Quilting really keeps me busy other than taking care of my kids and my part-time job at that time.

While looking for tutorials in YouTube I stumbled upon tutorials from Jenny@Missouri Star Quilt Company. And for first 6months or so watched every single video, while my baby was little. Made my first quilt in end of October 2011. With my very first quilt I wanted to free motion quilt( but didn't know anything about it) and  I quilted with my regular sewing foot. I got really frustrated and thought there must be an easier way to do this. That's when I came across Leah Day's video on YouTube for free motion quilting. It was a blessing and the beginning of my Free Motion Quilting Journey.

Since then, I have been quilting or making baby blankets, burp cloths, wash cloths.......name any baby item. My precious kids are my inspiration.

Quilt Along with Leah Day - week30

This week's design was my all time favorite. Its an easy design but people who don't FMQ think its so complicated ;). I really love the the texture on the quilt. Here are some of pictures of the Paisley FMQ on my Shades of Blue quilt: Paisley FMQ with Circles - you see on the first block I tried to mix paisley with circles Paisley FMQ Paisley FMQ The past week was really productive for me. Finally my sewing machine started behaving and the quilting went really smooth. I almost quilted away 3 blocks. Just 2 more blocks to quilt approximately. I can't wait to finish this quilt soon. I was in a flow this week with FMQ, but did have stop and work on my piecing my Groovy quilt and work on the UFO. Which is always good. We Support You Day 4 - Indelible Pillow

Welcome to the Day 4 of We Support You Blog hop.
