Free Motion Quilting Tools and Supplies

Do you want to improve your free motion quilting?
Then here is a list of essential tools and supplies which are helpful to practice free motion quilting (FMQ):

Essential Tools:
  1. Free motion quilting foot
  2. Schmetz Topstitch needles  - 80/12 for 50wt thread or 90/14 for 40wt thread
  3. Quilting thread. For example Sulky 40wt Rayon, Superior Threads So Fine #50 Polyester, Auriful 50wt thread, Isacord Polyester Threads, Coats and Clarks 30wt cotton machine quilting thread.
  4. Supreme slider or any other teflon mat which they already use for quilting
  5. Machingers quilting gloves
  6. Quilt Sandwich for practice. I generally use either solid color layer cake, fat quarter or half yard of fabric.
  7. Paper/Pen for practicing quilting designs.L
  8. Little Genie Magic Bobbin Washers (optional)
  9. Water soluble marking pen or disappearing marking pen of your choice
Fabric considerations:
Some of the fabrics I found very helpful for practicing FMQ:
  1. Darker Solid fabric with contrasting lighter quilting thread. For example Back Moda Bella or Kona solids or any other fabric of their choice with white thread.
  2. Stripes which are 1.5inches to 2 inches apart
  3. Large prints or Panels

Think Ruffles Day1 - Kona White Ruffled pillow

I welcome you all to Day1 of Think Ruffles blog hop organized by amazing Mdm Sam @ SewWeQuilt and our amazing cheer leader Amy @ SewIncrediblyCrazy blog. I wanted to thank both Mdm Sam and Amy for this wonderful blog hop. Now peak at my project, a ruffled pillow with zipper. I have been wanting to make ruffles for a while and had one particular pillow in mind, V & Co's white ruffle pillow . I made mine with white Kona Cotton. The strips for the ruffles are 1.5inches. The finished pillow cover is 12"x18". Kona Honey Buns - 1.5inch strips My Little Quilty Model Oh..Ruffles...Ruffles... This time around I even got to add a zipper. Yay for me! Quilt Along with Leah Day - week30

This week's design was my all time favorite. Its an easy design but people who don't FMQ think its so complicated ;). I really love the the texture on the quilt. Here are some of pictures of the Paisley FMQ on my Shades of Blue quilt: Paisley FMQ with Circles - you see on the first block I tried to mix paisley with circles Paisley FMQ Paisley FMQ The past week was really productive for me. Finally my sewing machine started behaving and the quilting went really smooth. I almost quilted away 3 blocks. Just 2 more blocks to quilt approximately. I can't wait to finish this quilt soon. I was in a flow this week with FMQ, but did have stop and work on my piecing my Groovy quilt and work on the UFO. Which is always good. Here is pic of the whole quilt, I would love to make one in girl colors ;): Shades of Blue Quilt - almost done!
