Shades Of Blue Modern Quilt

I hope my attempt to Modern Quilt piecing looks modern. I tried my best to give it a modern look using solid or solid like fabrics. Uneven sashing for the blocks and I followed it through the outer border too. The quilt measures approximately 42 x 46 inches.

I hope I will get the quilting done my next week and then need to choose my binding fabric. I have a lot of options here for the binding fabric.

Here are some pictures:

I'm linking this to Leah's Quilt Along hoping it does look modern. Overall I'm happy with the results.

I would love to hear your opinion on my attempt to modern quilting, please leave a comment one way or the other.

Cheers,
Malini

  1. It most certainly has a contemporary feel/look! The blues/white are my fave color combo! The perfect palette for some great quilting adventures!-D

    1. Thank you, Doreen. I have more ideas for quilt patterns probably they're going to be in blues too ;).
Might even try some purple or pink too :-).

  2. I like it. It is more organised than mine, but this is what I liked about this project. Anything goes and yours looks very pretty. I like the white background...should really try this myself.

    1. Karin I had been thinking about this quilt even before Leah's started her modern quilt. So, I still went with the organized route. Will have to try the wonky quilt sometime. A baby quilt would be nice I suppose.

  4. I think it's terrific! Really it's been most interesting to see how some quilters lean towards a more organized look, while others have gone super wonky. Remember there's no right or wrong way of doing this!

Also remember that the term "modern quilt" now has so many different, conflicting definitions that you can really turn it into anything you want. It's modern if you call it modern!

    Enjoy, Leah

  5. Thank you, Leah!
Its always nice to hear your point of view. I have been thinking of making a wonky quilt too. Modern quilting is definitely new to me and like you said there are so many different techniques or no techniques :-). Have to learn to let it go and just try something new.
