Cat Patches's NewFO Linky Party - September

I was so excited when I stumbled up the NewFO @ Catch Patches. I have been wanting to join the party since the beginning of the year but never got a chance.
I had similar concept but quilty life interrupted by other events for BMQG and I haven't been able to pick from where I left, 2013 Bootcamp Sundays. Hopefully I will get this started again in October.

Here is the project I worked on for September, check this original post for a link to the tutorial on Riley Blake Design's website for the "Cute and Spooky Spider web" quilt.

W.I.P. Thursday - To do list

I always miss the deadline for W.I.P. Wednesday and end up making a post on Thursday. Why not call it W.I.P. Thursday.

Recently I have been renting the long arm a lot at Bits N Pieces, and I have been able to reduce my UFO pile. I am so glad because now I get to get work on more new projects. I have couple of commitments and some quilts which I wanted to make.

1. First comes, Puppy Park fabrics, starting a new baby/toddler quilt. Here is the quilt I saw in Pinterest and here. It will be very similar to this quilt. But I am planning to add this puppy to dog house applique and the tree:
2. I have never worked with Batiks and I'm curious about them. When I saw these batiks by Robert Kaufman I had to buy them. Also I am participating in the blog hop "Twist to the 60s". I don't know much about the 60s but did my research to work with these batiks.

Here is what I will be working with, Come back on Oct 4th for my turn to share the project.

3. A few projects from these lovely fabric score from Bits N Pieces sale during their birthday bash. They have a huge selection of fabrics, something for everyone. Modern or traditional quilter you will find stuff you like. Also they have huge selection of kids fabrics which I love.
Yes these are different shades of orange. I would not have choose these fabrics by myself. But when I saw this beautiful Supernova quilt by Jacquie Gering. I had to make one exactly similar to this. I have a huge selection of blues and aquas to pair with these oranges.

Simply Style and Cuzco fabrics
I finally got the Cuzco fabric for great price during the sale and the newest Simply Style by V & Co layer cake and some fat quarters. Liz @ BitNPieces spoils us with these wonderful sales. Get on their newsletter  and FB to find out about their wonderful sales. They are unbelievable.

4. I making a shop sample of Liz @ BitsNPieces quilt shop using these wonderful textured solids(linen) I believe they are by Andover fabrics. I paired it with some chevron prints from Simply Style new fabric line by V & Co:

I don't like to work on a deadline. But I do work really well under pressure.
Having said that, I'm not sure which order I will be working on things. Will be back next week with some progress.

Happy Quilting!

Leah Day's FMQ Friday - Varshini's quilt

I finally got V's quilt done this past Wednesday @ Bits N Pieces. My inspiration for this quilt was Angela Walter's Free Motion Quilting Feathers. This entire class is all about feathers. I love feathers so much that this class was totally worth it.

Here are some pictures of the quilt. A lot of negative space for the fun quilting. This quilt was a joint venture between me and my daughter. It was her design and she did all the appliques. She had so much fun peeling off the paper from back of the appliques and sticking them to the quilt. I did all the piecing and ironing for her :-).

Feathers FMQ and more...

Another closeup of the feathers - this is pretty large scale feather about 2inches I guess
K saying cheese!
When big sis is at school we take over her quilt as well as bunny ;)

Back of the quilt - Paisley Minky fabric. Do you see the little feet?

This was really fun to quilt. One thing I have observed quilting on a long arm, is that I should just go with the flow for a better quilting experience. If I plan to many designs based on the blocks or something, it gets little tedious. This one was really fun to quilt.

Riley Blake Design's Cutting Corners - Cute And Spooky Spider Web Quilt

I am really excited to announce that my first tutorial for Riley Blake Design's Cutting Corners is published today. Check out their web site for Cute And Spooky Spider Web Quilt.

I took this to the long arm quilting @ Bits N Piecies in Pelham, NH. Since I wanted to finish quilting within 2 - 3 hours. I kept the quilting simple with arches in the spider web legs and swirls poking out of the spider webs.
Few more pictures of the quilts.
Hmmm not sure why it displays in this way. If you click on the picture you can see the quilting details.

We went to the Andover commons to get some beautiful pictures of the quilt. But it kind of got dark.
